Curry Burger w/Chutney Topping

“What’s for dinner tonight, Mama?”

“Uh, we’ll see, “ I say scrambling to get it together. We’ve just gotten home after a trip to the mall and bookstore. The anxiety from it all has taken over and I haven’t a clue what we’re having.

Thank goodness for the ground turkey in the fridge and the Kaiser rolls in the pantry. I also picked up a bag of apples in honor of the season. Would love to take a trip to Carter Mountain to pick our own, but don’t see it in the future. We’re fortunate to hear about funny stories from our friends. Am I right, Andrea?

The little one pipes up again, “What are you making?”

I say enthusiastically, “Burgers and apples!” Apples being chutney for us adult-folk.  I found a great recipe here.

Every plate was spotless by the end of dinner.

What You Will Need:
1 lb ground turkey
½ tsp cinnamon
¼ tsp cardamom
¼ tsp ground coriander
½ tsp onion powder
½ tsp garlic salt
¼ tsp paprika
½ tsp curry powder
½ tsp pumpkin spice
3 small apples, peeled, cored, chopped
½ yellow onion, chopped
¼ C orange marmalade
2 T red vinegar
¼ C brown sugar
tomato

1) Mix cinnamon through curry powder in small bowl.
2) Mix seasoning into turkey. Form 6-7 patties.
3) Prepare grill.
4) Add apples, vinegar, orange marmalade, onion, brown sugar and pumpkin spice to medium saucepan. Mix together and bring to boil. Simmer while burgers are on grill.
5) Serve burgers on buns, top with sliced tomatoes and chutney.

Looks like fun, but I am not certain the younger crowd around my place would celebrate. What do you do to get kids to try tastes that are quiet different from their usual fare?
